During a normal school year, there are five sports that play during the fall season. These five sports are football, boys soccer, girls soccer, girls volleyball, and cross country. Due to COVID-19, unfortunately, not all of these sports have been able to play and compete like they normally would. The football season was completely cancelled, despite protests and resistance from players. Thankfully, the other four fall sports were able to salvage their seasons, however, all sports are dealing with the effects of COVID. For example, the Cross Country team had to shut down for a little over a week due to a positive case on the team. However, they were able to recover and successfully compete in their first meet at Saint Paul on the 6th. Other sports, such as Girl’s Soccer, Boy’s Soccer, and Girl’s volleyball all had their first games recently, with Girl’s soccer season beginning on Wednesday October 7th, and the Boy’s soccer season beginning on Thursday October 8th, along with Girl’s volleyball. All of the sports that are currently practicing and competing have had to change the way that they typically practice, for the sake of protecting the community from COVID-19. This includes social distancing during practices, and mask wearing during times where athletes are not physically active. To conclude, while sports this year are not the same as in past years, most sports are still competing, despite these difficult times.
