MARCH 8th WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL DAY!
¡8 DE MARZO MES INTERNACIONAL DE LA MUJER!
¡8 DE MARZO MES INTERNACIONAL DE LA MUJER!
After years of significant struggle for women to achieve equality, International Women's Day was made official by the United Nations as a commemorative date in 1975. However, in some European countries this date was already set as a day to celebrate women.
Every year there is a theme related to Women’s History Month. This year’s theme is called WOMEN LEADERS: FOR AN EQUAL FUTURE IN THE WORLD OF COVID-19.
Historically, the world has been male dominated. It has been written by men, cultivated by men, and for the benefit of men, without considering that their companions, women, have been participants in their hardships and triumphs. This, without a doubt, is one of the greatest injustices that still exists with humanity.
Even in the XXI century, there are still countries where women are considered second-class citizens, unable to obtain the right to enjoy the same benefits that society grants to their counterparts of the opposite sex. There is still a lot that needs to be done to ensure that women occupy the same status or situation as men. It is necessary, therefore, to create awareness and education in society so that one day it can really be said that there is equality between men and women.
Women have been present in all of the cultures that have existed since the beginning of humanity, embodying active roles in the societies in which they lived. However, women’s achievements and participation have always been ignored or minimized. So often in written stories male perspectives are portrayed, decreasing the role and participation of women.
In daily living, women have been fundamental to the development and progress of humanity. Even though men have tried to undermine the role of women in society as if their participation has been non-existent, it is almost always a wife or partner of public men, whose merits do deserve to be mentioned and remembered.
Throughout history, there have been countless books that speak of political conflicts, wars between countries, and powerful kings: all fields in which women, except on rare occasions, had no opportunity to thrive in. History has always been unfair to women and it is only in recent decades that social scientists have begun to rethink and recognize the role of women, not only within society, but also in the world in which they develop.
Today we see that the roles and statuses of women in society are changing little by little, so that one day they will undoubtedly occupy the place they deserve in our society.
