Entrevista con la directora del Torringtoniano:
Where did you attend elementary school?
I attended East School from kindergarten to fifth grade, just a few years before the school closed down. I loved the environment at East School, and the friends that I made while I was there are still some of my closest friends to this day.
What have you enjoyed about attending Torrington High School?
My time as a student at Torrington High School has consistently been enhanced by the incredible teachers that dedicate their time and energy to teaching us students. I have learned so much these past four years, which is solely because of the fact that my teachers have been incredible. I also loved participating in clubs and organizations, which allowed me to develop as a person and establish greater connections.
What activities have you taken part in as a student at Torrington High School?
Throughout the past four years, I have participated in Interact Club, Science Club, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honors Society, and of course The Torringtonian, where I help choose topics and authors for each issue. Every one of these activities has benefited me in multiple ways, connecting me with the community of Torrington.
What are your favorite subjects in school? Do you have any specific favorite classes?
My favorite subjects in school tend to be English, Spanish, and Science, but it always depends on the curriculum and course structure for that year. Most of my favorite classes from high school have been taken this year, specifically Ms. DeMarchi’s Uconn English class, Mr. Richardson’s Philosophy class, and Señor’s Uconn Spanish V class. I have learned so much in these three classes, which have helped me broaden my worldview and understand different cultures around the world.
You are the Valedictorian of Torrington High School’s Class of 2021, how does that feel?
I never thought that I would be Valedictorian for this year’s graduating class. My intentions were always to do my absolute best in school, but class rank was never something that I concerned myself with. To be graduating at the top of my class is an honor that I feel so proud of achieving, and it truly validates the hard work that I have put into academics these past four years.
How does it feel to be graduating?
I can’t even believe that I am graduating in just a few days! To think that my time in the Torrington Public Schools system is coming to an end is very bittersweet. I am so excited to attend college and enter the real world, but I will also miss seeing my classmates everyday and being in a building with teachers that I am fond of. I am both nervous and excited all at once!
What are your post-graduation plans?
This fall, I will be attending Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. I chose Belmont because they had a multitude of options regarding majors, which is perfect for someone like me who is not exactly sure what they want to do. Since sophomore year I have wanted to go to school in Nashville, so Belmont felt like the perfect fit for me. As of right now, I am planning on majoring in Media Production with a minor in Spanish, while participating in the Honors Program.
