MY STORY
I am from Guatemala, and I am 15 years old. In Guatemala, I was studying well and everything, but money was needed, and I had to leave school at 12 years old, finishing 5th grade. I lived in a small town with my family until a year ago, January 24, 2019 when my mother brought us here, to the United States to be able to achieve what we could not in our country and move on. Even though I am not old enough to work, I am studying to finish school and have a job. In this country we started again from scratch. Speaking with people who do not know Spanish is difficult. After arriving here in this country, we spent about 4 months with my aunt and then my aunt looked for an apartment that was for rent, while my mother worked. My brothers and I studied without knowing any English, and continue to study even though we don't know everything yet. But, we are trying to be able to know English, speak it, and converse with people who cannot speak Spanish. Although we are adapting little by little and we miss our country very much, our families, like many people, have come here to succeed and achieve goals. Some have already achieved it and I pray so much to be able to achieve what I set out to do and I promise that as a debt.
This country is very good, and you adapt little by little, but you also achieve what you have proposed with effort and wisdom. The most important thing is to always ask for an adult's advice. Ofelia Ramirez Spanish Native Speakers II |
