EL DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS
Por Luis Morales Briones |
Mexico, where the day of the dead is celebrated, is not just a celebration. It is a ritual that we give to our deceased, showing the affection we have for them and that we do not forget them. We do many things such as put out offerings or go to the cemetery, and we celebrate those who have died. We bring them food and all their favorite things, like mariachi bands, cake, or bread. We also give them offerings that represent our affection, whether it be their favorite foods or drinks, or even alcohol, wine, juice or sweets. Many people also make small altars with photos of their families, roses, flowers, their favorite cup of coffee, small souvenirs they have of them, or their favorite Mexican dishes of food and drinks. The day of the dead is not about going out and asking for sweets, it is a date very important to us Mexicans, since that day represents our relatives, who because of many reasons, are no longer by our side.
