MARCH WOMEN'S MONTH / MARZO MES DE LA MUJER
The history of humanity has been characterized by having been written by man, enhancing man and, for the benefit of man, without considering that his companion, woman, has been a participant in his hardships and triumphs, which is one of the greatest injustices that still exist within humanity. In the XXI century there are still countries where women are considered second-class citizens, without the right to enjoy the same benefits that society grants to their counterparts of the opposite sex, men. In reality, much remains to be done to consider that women are really in the same situation as men. It is therefore necessary to raise awareness and educate society so that, one day, it can truly be said that there is equality between men and women.
Woman has been present, since the beginning of humanity and in all cultures, as an active part of the society in which she lived. However, her participation was always ignored in a written history, almost always from the male point of view, which forgets that the participation of women, in daily life, has been fundamental for the development and progress of humanity. . Since time immemorial, attempts have been made to minimize the role of women in society, as if their participation had been non-existent and, if they are ever mentioned, it is as a wife or partner of men, whose merits do deserve to be mentioned and remembered. The pages of history books speak of political conflicts, wars between countries and powerful kings; fields in which women, except on rare occasions, had no opportunity to stand out. In reality, history has always been unfair to women and it is only recently that social scientists have begun to rethink and recognize the role of women, not only within society, but also in the world in which it develops.
In recent decades, at the same time that studies on the situation of women in our society have been advancing, those dedicated to researching the subject have begun to discover the greatness and work done by some famous women. Some of this material is readily available in libraries, chronicles, legal codes, biographies, and church archives. Another source of information appears as a result of the study of popular culture, to which women are intimately linked due to their status as mothers and workers.
Although it is true that some progress has been made, it is good to remember the Peruvian poet César Vallejo when he said “There are brothers and sisters who have a lot to do…”
