HONORING BLACK HISTORY MONTH
RINDIENDO HONOR AL MES DE LA HISTORIA AFROAMERICANA
RINDIENDO HONOR AL MES DE LA HISTORIA AFROAMERICANA
Honoring Black History Month goes far beyond sharing content on social media. Honoring Black History Month involves acknowledging the role and impact of white supremacy throughout history as well as today. Start educating yourself by reading books. I recommend “So you want to talk about race” by Ijeoma Oluo, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou, and “How to be an antiracist” by Ibram X. Kendi. Some movies and documentaries that I personally like are “The Central Park Five”, “13th”, “Selma”, “I am Not Your Negro”, and “Whose Streets. And finally, if you are into podcasts my top picks are “Historically Black”, “Noire Histoir”, “In Search of Black History with Bonnie Greer” and my favorite “Code Switch-NPR”. Support black owned businesses, find a cause to support and donate especially ones that focus on Black empowerment and amplification. Listen to the Black people around you, but remember we don't owe you our time and energy explaining our lived experiences. Make these actions part of your everyday life. Remember every day is Black History Month and without black History there is no history. Support, donate, listen, and educate yourself and those around you. Use your voice!
“I am black and proud. Black is beautiful. Black is resilient. Black is joy. Black is brilliant. Black is remarkable. Black is good”. -Marie Beech.
Empieza a educarte leyendo libros. Recomiendo “Así que quieres hablar de raza" de Ijeoma Oluo, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" de Maya Angelou, y "How to be an antiracist" de Ibram X. Kendi. Algunas películas y documentales que me gustan personalmente son "The Central Park Five", "13th", "Selma", "I am Not Your Negro" y "Whose Streets. ¡Usa tu voz!
“Soy negra y orgullosa. El negro es hermoso. El negro es resistente. El negro es alegría. El negro es brillante. El negro es notable. El negro es bueno”. -Marie Beech.
