THE IMPACT OF OIL EXPLOITATION / EL IMPACTO DE LA EXPLOTACI'ON PETROLERA
Oil is a necessary resource for almost all the actions of daily life and an essential element in the life of the human being. For this reason, it is a factor highly coveted by governments around the world. Oil exports are defined as the extraction of oil and gas from the subsoil, through the drilling of wells and the construction of the infrastructure for its transport and storage in the oil fields. These operations are necessary for a country's economy and innovation. It is a resource that is essentially found in nature since it comes from and is extracted from wells in the ground. However, these processes are not friendly to the environment. Oil fields need a lot of supervision by engineers so that various environmental requirements are met and the environmental impact of such operations is reduced. Unfortunately, the level of contamination and damage to the environment that is caused is irreversible and more than a necessity, oil exploitation has become the economic greed of high-ranking businessmen and millionaires generating more and more wells. The effects of oil exploitation can be categorized into two major problems, pollution and deforestation. Pollutants can be of different natures:
Chemistry: includes the crude oil itself and its components, which enter the environment through different operating practices, the chemicals used to facilitate the extraction of the oil, the compounds associated with the crude oil, etc.
Sonora: detonations that occur in seismic prospecting and by operation of oil machinery
Light: generated by burning gas [1]
These factors generate different types of impacts on the environment. Taking into account the geographical space and the infrastructure of the oil fields, deforestation is inevitable for the construction of these facilities such as drilling platforms, camps, heliports and wells, as well as the opening of access roads, the laying of oil pipelines, etc. . . In addition to the strictly deforested spaces, there is an edge effect that makes the disturbed area much larger. This causes serious impacts on the animals of the jungle, especially older animals and birds that flee the place, affecting the diet and health of the indigenous people who live from hunting.
