Interview with Mr. Splettstoeszer (Band/Orchestra/Music Technology teacher)
What or who inspired you to teach?
My elementary music teacher Janet Barneschi from Chamberlain Elementary School, New Britain, CT
Why did you choose to become a music teacher?
I was always involved in music in school. I saw how each of my music teachers inspired and were a huge part of their school’s community.
Did you know you wanted to become a teacher when you were younger?
Yes, or become the ball boy for the New England Patriots!
What are your interests outside of teaching?
Classic Cars ( I own a 1992 Mustang Convertible), Dogs and my beloved New England Patriots.
How would you describe your responsibilities as a band teacher ?
Being a music teacher you have a large amount of responsibilities. Running performing ensembles (Band/Orchestra), teaching Music Technology I and II, organizing, maintaining and repairing instrument inventory, creating concert programs that are challenging yet fun to perform.
What are some of the challenges of your job?
Each year the performing ensembles change based on the students in the Band/Orchestra
What motivates you to work ?
The students!

1996 to present 27 years

I grew up in New Britain, Conn.
What school did you attend?
I attended New Britain High School.
What are some of your achievements whiling working at THS?
Over 50 1st Place/Superior Ratings since 1996 for the Band
THS Band selected to march in three national parades in Washington, D.C.2006, 2010 & 2015
THS Music Technology website is used by over 60 schools from across the United States, Canada, Australia and Costa Rico

- ¿Por qué decidió ser profesor de música?
- Siempre estuve involucrado en la música en la escuela. Vi cómo cada uno de los profesores de música inspiraban y eran parte importante de la comunidad de su escuela.

- Dirigir conjuntos de interpretación (banda/orquesta), enseñar tecnología musical I y II, organizar, mantener y reparar el inventario de instrumentos, crear programas de conciertos que sean exigentes pero divertidos de realizar.
Cada año, los conjuntos de interpretación cambian según los estudiantes de la Banda/Orquesta.
